Contagious Illness - Can Your Child Come To School?
Unfortunately, all children become ill from time to time. If the school nurse suspects that your child has a contagious illness (see below), she may require you to take your child to his/her healthcare provider, so that a definite diagnosis can be made and treatment can be started. She may require you to bring in a note from the provider, in order to re-admit the child to school. And there may be a required waiting period before your child can return to school, depending on the diagnosis. The letter below summarizes some illnesses, and explains when a child with each illness can return to school.
Of course, common sense applies, in addition to these guidelines - please see "sick day guidelines" below for a one-page reminder about when your child should stay home for any illness.
