All Elmira district schools and offices will be closed from 8-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, so that all staff may attend a mandatory Opening Day orientation at The Clemens Center.

District announces schedule for first day of practice for fall sports |
Practices for fall sports in the Elmira City School District officially begin on Monday, August 16.
EFA pool to reopen Monday |
The pool at Elmira Free Academy will reopen for open swim sessions, pool parties and child swimming lessons on Monday, August 2.
All district staff will attend a mandatory orientation at the Clemens Center on Tuesday, Sept. 7 so that employees can meet in one place for training and announcements. The orientation will include student performances and a keynote presentation by Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter.

All district schools and offices will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 7. They will reopen at 11 a.m.
A Broadway Middle School student looks at slides that students created during the BASE Camp's summer program, after collecting water samples from the Chemung River. This program, which features after-school activities during the school year, is provided by a grant from the New York State Education Department 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
This summer, Diven students took part in a service learning project at Eldridge Park. Along with cleaning up the park, they chose to research either the park's animals, nature or history. The students produced informational pamphlets and stories that were given to Eldridge Park to share with the rest of the community. The students plan to continue to work on a book they began this summer in hopes of publishing it and donating any proceeds to the preservation of the carousel.
Superintendent Hochreiter has begun using Twitter in order to enhance his communication with parents, students and community members. He wants to let people know about what’s happening in district schools and to update them on subjects such as afterschool activities and school construction projects.
