Middle school conference day has been rescheduled for March 25

Due to the snow day on February 25, the parent-teacher conference day for grades 6-8 has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 25. Middle school students will have a half day with dismissal at 10:20 a.m. This time is intended to avoid busing conflicts with the elementary school dismissal time at 11 a.m.

 

SHS students star in a "Seussian" musical


Southside High School will present "Seussical" at 8 p.m. March 19 and 20th in the school's theater. Tickets are $10; student tickets are $5 with an adult. Click here for more information.

 

Middle school musicals focus on fun


Broadway Middle School will present "Dear Edwina Jr." at 7:30 p.m. March 25, 26 and 27 and at 2 p.m. March 28 in the school's theater. Tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for students and seniors. Click here for more information.

Candidate packets now available for three Elmira School Board seats

Elmira City School District residents interested in seeking a seat on the Board of Education may pick up information packets and petitions from Janet Mustico, District Clerk, at EFA.

Three seats are available for three-year terms which will run from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2013. Three current Board members have terms that expire on June 30, 2010: Lynn Grottenthaler, Colleen McCall and Rodney Strange.

Candidates must turn in 100 signatures of qualified voters by 5 p.m. on April 28 to be placed on the ballot. Candidates will draw for position on the ballot April 29. The next district School Board budget vote and election is May 18.

 

State recognizes Beecher Elementary

Beecher Elementary School was the focus of an article in the Feb. 18 issue of New York Teacher. The article highlighted Beecher Elementary as a 'turn-around school' because of its dramatic improvement in student achievement data, attendance, behavior, parent involvement and student motivation over the past six years.
