Welcome to the Beecher Elementary School Counseling page
I am Sonja Jennings, school counselor for Beecher Elementary School. I would like to take this opportunity to give more information regarding my role as the school counselor and describe how students are best served through the various components of the program.
My primary responsibility as a school counselor is to promote the academic, personal/social and career development of all students. This is accomplished through a variety of services delivered in different settings.
I provide monthly Collaborative Classroom Instruction (CCI) lessons to all students in their regular classrooms. These lessons are developed with the unique needs of the school and students in mind. The lessons are developmentally appropriate and incorporate the curriculum whenever possible.
I also provide small group counseling focusing on specific topics such as social skills/friendship, anger management and study/organizational skills. Students are invited to participate in this voluntary activity as a way to help further develop skills that will lead to success in school.
Individual counseling is also available to students who may need short-term assistance and support.
In addition to the activities listed above, I team and collaborate with school and community-based stakeholders to ensure the needs of all students are being met. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns regarding this program or would like assistance helping your child. I look forward to working with you to assist your child in reaching their full potential.
