Valentine's Day 2021 Service ProjectOur Hendy Elementary 3rd grade students have decided to adopt a Service Learning Project as their way of celebrating the HEART of Valentine’s Day in this very unprecedented school year.

Students have chosen both of our local animal shelters to partner with for our project, The Elmira Animal Shelter and The Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA.

The HEART Service Learning project: Hendy students and staff are collecting as many paper towel rolls as they can for our local animal shelters.

Each student has been invited to bring in a roll of paper towels to help build the collection. The goal is to collect 100 rolls of paper towels by the 100th day of school (which is mid-February).

Each student will make one card for the animals at our local animal shelter.

Please note: This will replace the practice of students bringing in cards from home to exchange at school. The school is providing the supplies needed for making these cards and we will provide a ‘special snack’ on our card making day.

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. We don’t have to have a college degree to serve. We don’t have to make our subject and verb agree to serve. We only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

Great job Hendy Huskies! #GoExpress
