BOARD MEMBER ELECTION

Three (3) seats on the Board of Education are to be filled at the Annual Budget Vote and School Board Election to be held on May 18, 2021. The three (3) candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to three-year terms commencing July 1, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2024.

ANNUAL BUDGET VOTE AND SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

Locations: School District voters residing North of the Chemung River (including residents of the Lowman area) vote at Ernie Davis Academy located at 933 Hoffman Street. Voters residing South of the Chemung River (including residents of the Golden Glow area) vote at Elmira High School located at 777 S. Main St.

Career Summary:
28+ yrs financial operations, administration, HR experience in nonprofit organizations, 23 years locally working in Elmira and surrounding towns. Currently Community Affairs Project Manager for Corning Incorporated focused on improving outcomes in disadvantaged communities due to racial and social inequality.

Why I want to serve on the Board of Education: I'd like to use my experience in nonprofit academia and the corporate world advocating for underserved people to contribute to ECSD's commitment to the children and families in our community.

Career Summary:
Public education - Possess NYS Dual-Certification in Secondary English and Special Education.
Completed 21 years of secondary English/Language Arts instruction, serving 16 years with the
Elmira City School District. Recognized as Broadway Middle School Teacher of the Year, 2005-2006.
Received the SUNY Corning Community College Colleague Award as a "Teacher Who Inspires." Retired July 2020.
 
Military Service - Completed 20 years of honorable service with the United States Air Force.  Advanced through
a host of assignments throughout the United States and Europe. Recognized as the Air Training Command
Instructor of the Year
 in 1986. Awarded the highly selective, merit-based Master Instructor Rating. Retired in the rank of lieutenant colonel in September 1999.

Why I want to serve on the Board of Education:
I was born, bred and raised in Elmira, the youngest of six children in an Irish-Catholic family. One core philosophy of my life has been the concept of service for the betterment of all. The Elmira City School District provided me with a teaching career while providing an excellent quality of life for my family. I look forward to the opportunity of giving back to the community.

The past year has been a challenge for the district; the amazing efforts of teachers, staff and leadership have overcome many obstacles related to educating students. Following the appropriate guidelines, recommendations and expectations, my goal is to identify and adapt the successes of our evolving academic paradigm and to successfully apply them, so as to best serve the future needs of our students and our community.

Why I want to serve on the Board of Education: I am running for re-election because I believe in the importance of ensuring every child receives a quality education in order to be successful. I believe I am able to serve on the District as an ethical, compassionate, accountable and fair board member.
