Staff Wellness Express Program

Healthy People. Healthy Teams. 🧘‍♀️ Fostering the physical and mental health of staff also helps support students’ health and academic success.

Welcome Back to School, Fall 2023

September is National Recovery and Suicide Awareness Month. Observing these critical areas of mental health provides us an opportunity to shed light on how to nurture well-being during times of hardship. During life's challenges, shifting our attention toward our mental, emotional, and physical well-being moves us beyond typical self-care and becomes a cornerstone of our inner strength as we demonstrate resilience and self-compassion to ourselves and others.

Also in this edition of the Elmira Express, you will find:

• Smola Speaker Series recording with Michael Lee on Conscious Choices During Turbulent Times

• The Resilience Blueprint
• An article on a trending buzzword in well-being
• A guided self-love meditation
• A comprehensive list of resources for those looking for additional mental health support

Announcing Wellness Speaker Series - December 8, 2022 at 7 p.m. via Zoom

Elmira City School District in partnership with Smola Consulting is proud to announce the culminating Wellness Speaker Series Event of 2022! The final guest of the year is global well-being leader Sara Martin, Chief Executive Officer at the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA). Sara has launched award-winning wellness programs and engineered work environments to create cultures of health across multiple industries, and she has single-handedly inspired thousands of well-being professionals across America to deploy strategies and initiatives that put employee well-being first.

Wellness

Join us on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 PM via Zoom as WELCOA CEO, Sara Martin presents “Systems for Psychological Safety, Trust and Respect in the workplace”. Psychological safety — the belief that one can share opinions, thoughts, and ideas freely without risk of punishment or humiliation — has been well established as a critical driver of healthy group dynamics and interpersonal relationships, and greater innovation in organizations. During this one-hour presentation, you will learn how issues of psychological safety play out at the workplace, and how to identify when we as individuals are not feeling psychologically safe.

Click here to register for the event or scan the QR code below. If you would like to learn more about Sara, you can visit the links below. We hope to see you at the event on December 8th!

Great Outdoors Month is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy yourself! This month is an awesome opportunity to encourage children to play outside and teach them how it can be part of a healthy lifestyle. Immersing yourself in nature is a free or inexpensive activity for families. Not only is it something to do, but it impacts your environmental wellness and strengthens your connection to the earth.

Hello Elmira!

Whether you’re working from home, taking a virtual class, or practicing physical distancing for you and your loved ones’ safety, we’re all experiencing a new normal together. This transition may be easy for some, but working and studying from home is unusual for many. As the days and weeks progress, you might find yourself craving a sense of balance and normalcy. Mental health is one of the most important components to your overall wellness. If you are not mentally well, other aspects of your health will suffer. Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. This month, try to focus on ways to nourish your mental health.

Please read, enjoy and practice some of the suggestions in the Elmira City School District Wellness Newsletter at https://www.smore.com/zqyc0
