Addressing Pandemic-Related Learning Loss

The Elmira City School District will utilize ARP ESSER funding to plan and implement evidence-based activities related to summer learning, supplemental afterschool programs, including providing classroom instruction or online learning during the summer months, and addressing learning loss among students, including low-income students, students with disabilities, English learners, students experiencing homelessness, and children in foster care. Our primary goal is to accurately assess students' academic progress and assist educators in meeting students' academic needs, including through differentiating instruction; (ii) implementing evidence-based activities to meet the comprehensive needs of students; (iii) providing information and assistance to parents and families on how they can effectively support students; and (iv) tracking student attendance and improving student engagement.

The funding is specifically targeted at closing learning gaps illuminated by the pandemic. The Elmira City School District is planning and implementing summer learning and supplemental after school program activities, including providing classroom instruction or online learning during the summer months and addressing the needs of low-income students, students with disabilities, English learners, students experiencing homelessness, and children in foster care.

ECSD currently receives significant funding support through multiple New York State grants. The ARP ESSER funds will further enhance our ability to provide robust and aligned after-school, summer, and additional evidence-based programming to address learning loss.
