Read for the Record 2021!Strong literacy, language, and social-emotional skills are all essential for school success.

Today, October 28, 2021, classrooms across the Elmira City School District join 1,000s of other classrooms across the globe in celebrating "READ FOR THE RECORD!" Thank you to the Express Football Team for visiting kindergarteners at Fassett Elementary this morning to share your love for literacy (and pumpkin carvings)!

Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience, bringing people across the country and around the world together to read the same book on the same day and share the joy and connection of reading.

This year’s #ReadfortheRecord book is “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon” by Kat Zhang—a story about the celebration of cultural symbols, family, and self-affirmation.

We read #ReadfortheRecord to raise awareness about the importance of early literacy. Did you know? Long-term outcomes of high-quality early education programs include higher high school graduation rates and higher earned salaries. And high-quality early education programs provide the greatest social return on investment ever documented.

We are so proud of our readers in Elmira! #GoExpress
